"Bear Encounter"
I have followed photographs closely in showing the handcar with canoe, the velocipede with tripods and crates of equipment on the carrying litter. In this imaginary scene, S.N. Cappers and "Red" McGee have stopped due to a big brown bear on the tracks somewhere on the Kenai Peninsula. They and their dog wait to see what the bear will do next. The bear just wants to cross the bridge and go salmon fishing in the stream. A hawk is standing by waiting to get one of the rabbits on the rocks.
This display, which took first place in the 1992 Alaska State Fair Model Contest, is twelve by twenty-four inches and includes a leaded glass case. The scale is 0 (1/48), and the gauge is standard (4' 8-1/2"). The canoe, most of the equipment, the bear and the scene are scratch-built, but the handcar is a Durango Press kit, and the velocipede is a Period Mineatures kit. The figures are Magnason Models figures and the dog is from an old Revell chuck wagon kit.
