"Alpine Heritage and Cultural Center."

I built this diorama, scale of 1:200, to promote the Alpine Heritage and Cultural Center. This architectural scale model is meant to give an idea as to what this theme park might someday look like when completed. We were working with the Disney corporation to develop this park as a tourist attraction at Sutton, Alaska, in 1987. Interest waned and Disney pulled out, yet the park has undergone some completion due to extensive volunteer work and the yet living dreams of several people.

In 1919, the coal washing plant at Sutton burned to the ground. The many coal mines in the area were developed and worked with the idea of providing coal for the United States Navy. Due to the fact that at this time the Navy was converting most of the fleet to oil, and with the loss of the washing plant, this industry pretty much died out. This theme park is to provide a museum setting for the preservation of that history.
